Hello again, folks, this is Jim (the Cook) with your latest Rooster News.

Running Rooster Readies for Runch

- or rather, Lunch

As I'm sure you've noticed the store has been in a steady state of either construction or change since we opened in May.  Hopefully that will all be done come the end of October.  The new bathrooms are (almost) finished, we're preparing a better and more permanent spot for Papa Joe, and we're installing the necessary fixtures to expand our service to include lunch and afternoon coffee starting in November.  We have new neighbors soon to be moving in behind us, next to us, and across the street, so we hope to have a successful lunch and coffee business with great sandwiches, salads, a daily hot entree, coffee, and desserts, along with tables, chairs, and couches for eating and relaxing.  More on this in the next newsletter.

Meanwhile, we hope you'll continue to bear with us as we push through the last of the construction, painting, and moving chores.  With a little luck, we'll have a great space that you can enjoy whether you're having lunch, picking up dinner, or just grabbing a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake

Rooster Saver Cards

On a related topic, we're raising a little money to pay for the store improvements we need to make, and we want to offer our regular customers a chance to help us out and save money at the same time.  For a limited time, we are offering Rooster Saver cards that allow you to save money on the Running Rooster purchases you're already making.  They work like this:  You buy a Rooster Saver card in any amount over $100 (think of it as buying a Gift Certificate for yourself).  But instead of paying the face value on the card, you pay a discounted amount according to how much value you purchase.  Cards from $100 to $199 save 10%, and cards from $200 to $299 save 15%.  Rooster Saver cards worth $300 or more can be purchased for a 20% discount ($240 for a $300 card), meaning that you will save 20% on every Running Rooster purchase you make until the card is used up.

You can see that for you regular customers who buy dinner every week or so, this can really save you some money.  Here's the fine print:  cards must be purchased by October 31st, card redemption (spending) is limited to $50 per week, and the card can not be used for catering orders or combined with other promotions.  That's it.

Closed Saturdays in October

Also related to our upcoming lunch service, we are closed each Saturday this month.  We are using these days to do work in the store and develop our lunch menu choices.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  We are available for catering on these Saturdays, however.

time to plan for the holidays

THANKSGIVING TURKEYS:  Once again, Running Rooster is going to be making some very special turkeys on Thanksgiving this year.  First, we'll be cooking our delicious wood burning rotisserie turkeys which are flavored with a brine recipe from the fabulous Alice Waters then cooked on our oak-wood burning rotisserie.  This is a traditional looking bird, golden brown with a hint of wood smoke flavor.  Second, we'll be cooking smoked turkeys in our hickory burning barbeque pit.  These turkeys are a deep and even golden brown, wonderfully juicy and with a pronounced smoke flavor.  Quite unique for your Thanksgiving table, or maybe as a second turkey to complement a traditional roasted bird.

Running Rooster Thanksgiving Turkeys will only be available by reservation.  They are fresh, will be in the 12 to 16 pound range, and the price for both types is $4.99 per pound (raw weight) including gravy.  We'll try our best to meet size requests but you will have to be a little flexible.  Most important is that we have a limited capacity in both our smoker and our rotisserie so if you would like one, order early!  Turkeys will need to be picked up at the kitchen off Fallon Road.

Also, we've had at least one request for side dishes in order to make a complete Thanksgiving meal.  If several of you would like this, please let me know early and I'll try to arrange a full dinner menu.  Thanks.

HOLIDAY CATERING:  If last year is any indication, our calendar for catering holiday events (dinner parties, business lunches, etc.) will fill fairly quickly.  This is just a friendly reminder to our Rooster News readers that if you are thinking about using Running Rooster for a holiday event, please book and confirm your event date as early as possible.
 

Did you receive the September 13th Newsletter?

We got some comments from people in the store that they hadn't received a newsletter in a long time.  Our last newsletter was dated the 13th of September.  If you did not receive that, please let me know so I can try to debug the mailing system.

Running Rooster is such a great service. It is a wonderful replacement for fast food, serving delicious, home cooked meals at a great price. It is so nice having R.R to stop off and still have a family meal. Thanks and keep up the good food. Aron Hollister

Habitat for Humanity Trail Ride

Habitat for Humanity is an organization that Brenda and I really admire.  We're happy to have been chosen to provide the lunch on the Habitat for Humanity Trail Ride which is happening on October 22nd.  It's a four hour ride through beautiful private ranch land, with lunch in the middle, and a auction and party with live music at San Juan Oaks afterwards.  Should be loads of fun, and all for a good cause.  If you're interested, call them at 831-635-9904.

School Fundraisers

This week's Running Rooster School Fundraiser benefits Rancho San Justo.  Next week is Gabilan Hills and the week after that comes Sacred Heart.  If you are connected somehow with one of those schools (parent, teacher, staff, grandparent, whatever) then mention that affiliation when you buy your Running Rooster meal in the store and a portion of the proceeds go to that school.  And, not to put any competitive pressure on you folks from Gabilan and Sacred Heart, but so far Sunnyslope Elementary has had the best response rate and raised the most money this year.
