Hello again, folks, this is Jim (the Cook) with your latest Rooster News.

Customer Referral Rewards Are Back!

A young startup business like Running Rooster has to grow, and grow fast, to make it against the big corporate guys these days.  Word of mouth has been our best friend in building this business (that's our very first customer at right).  For those of you who were Running Rooster customers back in the early days, you remember that we used to give rewards for referring new customers to us.  Well, we've decided to bring that program back.  It helps us by bringing new folks in the door, and it helps you by giving you a discount for each new customer you refer!  Here's how it works:

Tell anyone who hasn't tried Running Rooster to mention your name when they first come in, and the next time you come in to buy a dinner, you get a 25% discount on your meal!  The more referrals you have, the more discounts you get.  It's just that simple.  The program starts today.

Once a week, we will update a page on our website listing all the earned but unredeemed discounts.  The store will have a copy of that list as well.  If you see your name on that page, come on down and get your dinner at 25% off.  You can accumulate multiple discounts, but you are limited to a single 25% discount on each meal (where a meal consists of one or two entrees and up to 4 sides).

As a special incentive, anyone who sends in 3 new referrals in the month of November gets a Running Rooster baseball cap (shown at left, cherub not included).  This rare and precious garmentary delight is still not sold in any store, and has only been available to employees and a few contest winners.  In our view, helping us build Running Rooster into a success certainly qualifies you as a Rooster team member!

Rooster Customer Panels

While we're on the subject of making Running Rooster a success, we've decided to turn to some experts in the field of understanding what customers need.  That would be you, the customers.  Starting this month, we will be hosting a monthly customer lunch at the store.  We'll provide the lunch, and you good folks will help us understand what we can do to improve the business and make it better for you.  We will talk about the food, menus, service, prices, marketing, anything.  Meetings will be limited to 1 hour in length.

If you can afford the time (date of first meeting to be determined) and you would like to have a real influence on Running Rooster, then send me an email and I will put you on the list.  Attendance will be round-robin amongst all those wishing to attend a meeting, with each meeting limited to 10 people so we can really talk things through.  All I ask is that you have been a customer at least twice before you attend so that you have a little experience with us.

TYPO ON PRICE OF THANKSGIVING TURKEYS

Last newsletter (10/5) we quoted the price of our special-order wood roasted and smoked turkeys as $4.99 per pound.  The correct price is $3.99 per pound.  Sorry about that.  For those of you who missed the October announcement about our special order turkeys, it is reprinted below:

Wow! A Running Rooster Roaster!Once again, Running Rooster is going to be making some very special turkeys on Thanksgiving this year.  First, we'll be cooking our delicious wood burning rotisserie turkeys which are flavored with a brine recipe from the fabulous Alice Waters then cooked on our oak-wood burning rotisserie.  This is a traditional looking bird, golden brown with a hint of wood smoke flavor.  Second, we'll be cooking smoked turkeys in our hickory burning barbeque pit.  These turkeys are a deep and even golden brown, wonderfully juicy and with a pronounced smoke flavor.  Quite unique for your Thanksgiving table, or maybe as a second turkey to complement a traditional roasted bird.  Both will be ready for warm pickup, with gravy, at 1:00pm on Thanksgiving Day.

Running Rooster Thanksgiving Turkeys will only be available by reservation.  They are fresh, will be in the 12 to 16 pound range, and the price for both types is $3.99 per pound (raw weight) including a full quart of gravy on the side.  We'll try our best to meet size requests but you will have to be a little flexible.  Most important is that we have a limited capacity in both our smoker and our rotisserie so if you would like one, order early!  Turkeys will need to be picked up at the kitchen on Shelton Drive.

Also, we will have mashed potatoes and a side vegetable available cold, along with fresh baked bread.  Let us know what you need when you order.  Thanks.

November Menus Available

November menu calendars are finally available both online and at the store, starting this afternoon.  Be sure to download and print your copy (requires Adobe Acrobat) or just pick up a copy next time you are in, and watch for your favorites.

Hi Rooster Gang!!!!  I was one of the lucky women who toured with the Hollister Women's group on Wednesday.  Friday I made my first order at the R.R. for a family birthday dinner. I was sooooo DELIGHTED to not rush home after a normal hectic day and have to cook.  YIPPEE!!!!  We had the lasagna because Jim told us it was the most requested.  My mouth is watering right now thinking how juicy and THICK it was...did I mention it tasted pretty darn marvelous!!!  Also the bread (sampled at the tour).  YEOW!!  Even heated up the next day for the 2 little pieces left were yummy.  The BROWNIES....do I even need to mention how incredible they were.  It was a pure slice of heaven to be introduced to your service and I look forward to more. I've passed out copies of the menu to my friends with the same comments I've given to you...with a lot of jumping up and down.  Enthusiastically..... June Hockenberry

Special Subscribers Discount

You ready for this one?  You have to be able to say "I love Running Rooster's Roasted T-Day Tom Turkey" when you check out without tripping over your own tongue (Yes, you get more than one try).  This entitles you to a free bag of diced dried Apricots from B&R farms.  They are great for holiday baking, and according to Mindy, perfect for little baby fingers to pick up and chew (kind of like Cheerios in that way).

Organization Fundraisers

We don't have a fundraiser this week, but next week (11/7) all you Girl Scout moms and dads can help the local girls in green by mentioning the Girl Scouts when you order.  The week after that (11/14), parents of Rancho-Maze band members can direct part of their purchase to support the band.   By the way, we have a new champion school fundraising team.  Parents of Sacred Heart School really came through during the week of October 17th.  Normally, we get 3 or 4 parents a night for the fundraiser, but Sacred Hearts parents came in by the dozen.  Great work, and thanks for being so supportive.  (At left, you see me offering a little snack to the horses at last month's Habitat for Humanity Harvest Ride.)

Here is the menu for the next two weeks,  starting this coming Monday November 7th.  Remember that if you don't yet have a November monthly calendar, you can download and print the pdf version from our website by clicking here.  And for descriptions and prices for any of the items on our menu, just go to our website's menu pages and click on any item name.

Note:  All menu items may be subject to substitution or selling out, depending upon our suppliers, our customers' appetites, and the whims of Jim (The Cook).

October Dinner Drawing Winner

Running Rooster wishes to congratulate Thelma J. Brown for winning the doorhangers drawing for a free dinner.  Thelma, you can come in any time and claim your free dinner for two, including an entree and two sides.  Thanks for participating in the drawing.
