January 23, 2006   (Look for the subscribers discount!)

Hello folks, this is Jim (the Cook) with a Rooster News Flash.

New Packaging

We are beginning a phase over from the packaging we have been using to a new type.  This new packaging has a few key features:  the lids snap on much tighter and are less likely to leak or pop off accidentally in the bag; and they can be washed in the dishwasher and re-used at your house, almost like traditional plastic storage-ware.  Our hope is that by offering a re-usable product to you, maybe fewer of them will wind up in the recycling or the landfill.  The only disadvantage to this new packaging is that it can't be put into the oven the way our old packaging could -- it is microwave only, so please note the difference.

You can tell the difference because the new packaging has a slightly cloudy lid that snaps on tightly and it says "Newspring" on the bottom.  We'll make sure to point it out in the store.

Here's our menu for this week.  If you have any questions or wish to reserve something, please call the store at 831-634-0135.  To see a description of any of these items, go to our online menu.  Also, did any of you have comments about the Vegetarian Lasagna or the Spaghetti Amatricianna?  I would like to hear from you.

Note:  All menu items may be subject to substitution or selling out, depending upon our suppliers, our customers' appetites, and the whims of Jim (The Cook).

DINNER:  Authentic Austrian Beef Gulasch

In Austria, home  of Jim (The Cook's) mother as well, Gulasch is the national equivalent of American Pot Roast.  It's what you eat after a long walk in the woods or a late night on the town, and always with plenty of tasty bread to sop up the sauce.  You can get it in any tavern or diner in the country, and it is almost always made the same way:  heavy on beef and onions, seasoned with plenty of paprika, garlic, caraway and marjoram, and cooked long and slow until the meat starts to shred and the stew is deliciously red-brown and thick.  It's a wonderful and unique beef stew.

LUNCH:  Chicken Apple Walnut Salad

Another in our line of classic dinner salads, this salad has the wonderful crunch from candied walnuts, the tang from diced apples, and the richness of crumbled bleu cheese.  Built on a base of mixed spring greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and topped with our wood-roasted sliced chicken breast.  Add your favorite dressing and some crusty French bread.

Weekly Subscriber Discount

This week's special subscriber discount phrase is "It's me, Mario!".  Remember this phrase for a 10% discount on everything you buy in the store this week.  Anyone whose had kids playing Nintendo knows where that comes from.
