February 13th, 2006   (Look for the subscribers discount!)

Hello folks, this is Jim (the Cook) with a Rooster News Flash.

St. Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th)

We mentioned this in last week's Rooster News, but Valentine's Day is Tuesday.  (Tuesday, gentlemen, as in tomorrow! Got a card yet?  Don't wait til Tuesday on the way home from work.  All that will be left is the ones with the chimp holding a rose and a banana.  Yes it's hilarious, but the ladies don't seem to find them as touching as we do.)  So I think this bears a repeat listing here:

Besides the card, do you have dinner figured out?  Let's face it, there's a few of you (no names, but you know who you are) for whom the picture at left represents the height of your culinary prowess.  That's OK, we here at Rooster Labs have devised a clever solution to your predicament:  the Valentine's Day Special Dinner.  We've combined a generous Prawn Cocktail appetizer with our very popular Wild Pacific Poached Salmon in Dill Sauce, some Lemon Couscous, fresh Asparagus, and our Crusty French Bread into a really nice dinner package that is sure to impress her (only $35.00 for this complete dinner for two).  Trust me, most ladies love fresh fish (something about health I think).  What's more, we'll have beautiful red roses by the stem and absolutely sinful hand-rolled chocolate truffles for dessert.  So, gentlemen, the Rooster has your back.  We've got you covered for everything you need:  the roses, the chocolates, and a delicious candlelight dinner for two.

Reservations are not necessary, but might be smart since supplies will be limited.  Just call the store at 634-0135.

Here's our menu for this week.  If you have any questions or wish to reserve something, please call the store at 831-634-0135.  To see a description of any of these items, go to our online menu.  The Valentine's Day Dinner Special is Tuesday only, but the Salmon will also be available on Wednesday.

Lunch Soup:  Soups this week are going to be Cream of Broccoli (Monday & Tuesday) and Clam Chowder (Wednesday thru Friday).

Note:  All menu items may be subject to substitution or selling out, depending upon our suppliers, our customers' appetites, and the whims of Jim (The Cook).

Penne Pasta with Italian Sausage

This is a great feel-good pasta dish for weekday dinners.  This dish is full of bold flavors as is most classic Italian comfort food.  It features penne pasta in a robust sweet Italian sausage, chunky tomato, and caramelized red onion sauce with fennel, marjoram, and oregano.  Try it with crispy side salad and our crusty French bread.

RECIPE CHANGE:  Mel's Diner Meatloaf

I know that our meatloaf has some pretty devoted fans out there who may wonder why I am monkeying around with our meatloaf recipe, but I believe that just because something is already very good, is no reason we can't make it better.  With that philosophy, we are changing the meatloaf recipe (on Wednesday this week) to use a classic meatloaf meat mixture of beef, pork, and veal rather than just beef.  We think the flavor will be more refined.  Please let us know what you think of the change.

Weekly Subscriber Discount

Many of you know by now that I am a dedicated Looney Tunes fanatic.  And since Valentine's Day is this week, what else could I possibly choose for the discount phrase but the immortal words of Pepe Le Pew as he woos the hard-to-get Penelope (the cat that always manages to get a white paint stripe down her back):  "Ah, Cherie, come with me to the Casbah!"  Remember to use this phrase for 10% off every purchase at Running Rooster.
