March 20th, 2006   (See below for your discount on every order!)

Hello folks, this is Jim (the Cook) with a Rooster News Flash.

Looking For a Healthy Snack?

There is a locally made trail mix that seems to have a fanatic following around town (Brenda being counted among its die-hard fans), and that's the "Deluxe Trail Mix" from Apricot Farm in the San Juan Valley.  Full of roasted and salted cashews, peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds, and blended with seedless raisins, this mix is a great snack for adults or kids.  It comes packaged in handy little 6 oz. bags that fit easily into a pocket or purse.

We are also selling their Cran Raisin Nut Mix, which is a delicious and unique blend of raisins, dried cranberries, walnuts, and raw almonds.

          - $2.99 per 6 oz. bag

Know of other local products you'd like to see us carry at the store?  Let us know.

Here's our menu for this week.  If you have any questions or wish to reserve something, please call the store at 831-634-0135.  To see a description of any of these items, go to our online menu.

Lunch Soup:  Soups this week are going to be Split Pea (Monday & Tuesday & Wednesday) and Carrot-Ginger (Thursday & Friday).

Note:  All menu items may be subject to substitution or selling out, depending upon our suppliers, our customers' appetites, and the whims of Jim (The Cook).

Return of Vegetarian Lasagna

Just like our Traditional Lasagna, Running Rooster's Vegetarian Lasagna is made with plenty of fresh whole-milk mozzarella and parmesan cheeses as well as rich tomato sauce made with fresh herbs.  Instead of Italian sausage, however, we add grilled eggplant, meaty portabella mushrooms, and fresh baby spinach to give this meatless version a satisfying rich flavor and body.
    $12.99 - 2 lbs.

New Soup:  Carrot-Ginger

I don't know about anyone else, but I've had enough rain for a while.  However, it is great soup weather, so we're going to let you folks try a new one:  Carrot-Ginger.  This is made with carrots, onions, fresh ginger, cream, and a little roasted caraway seed, all pureed together into a smooth, creamy and rich taste.  Available Thursday & Friday this week.

Portion Sizes Feedback

Brenda and I went and tried out a different dinner alternatives business this weekend (not in Hollister) and were struck by how much smaller their portion sizes seemed.  So this week we are hoping our customers will weigh in on this issue:  Do you find Running Rooster's portions (generally all two adult portions per package except the whole chicken and the ribs) to be about right, too small, or too generous?  And aside from single person portions (we know there is a demand for those) what would you like to see us change about our portions?  If you have an opinion, please drop me a line via email.  Thanks.

Weekly Subscriber Discount

It is, of course, the fundraiser week for the San Benito Stage Company this week.  I'm reminded of one of my childhood forays into the lively arts:  the role of the young Duke of York in Shakespeare's Richard III.  Pretty long hair serious stuff, I know, compared to a fun romp like Arsenic and Old Lace, but I did get to be strangled and buried under the steps of the Tower of London (tastefully off stage).  And given the recent weather and this being the first day of spring, I think this phrase from Richard III  is perfect for your weekly discount:  "Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer . . ."   Remember to use this phrase for a quick 10% discount on every order throughout this week at Running Rooster.
