Hello folks, this is Jim (the Cook) with a Rooster News Flash.

Tainted Spinach, or Bluto's Revenge

This past weekend, the news was full of the story about contaminated spinach causing an outbreak of e.coli infection which is believed to have infected 109 people across the country.  Popeye, needless to say, isn't getting his daily spinach right now.

E.coli, among the many different types of food-borne illnesses, is one of the potentially serious ones, especially for young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.  Authorities currently suspect the source of the outbreak to be spinach raised in the Salinas valley and marketed by Natural Selection Foods (Earthbound Farms) under a variety of brands.  This is an ongoing investigation and may yet prove that the source of the outbreak is elsewhere.

Running Rooster wants our customers to know that the Spring Mix used in our salads:  A) is not purchased from Earthbound Farms; and B) does not contain any spinach in the mix.

We've followed this all weekend and communicated with our supplier (Gourmet Veg-Paq here in Hollister) to insure the safety of our salads.  And we will continue to avoid serving spinach, cooked or fresh, in any form until the USDA issues the all-clear.

Delay on the Chicken Tostada Salad

What with the concern over the spinach, we did not have time this weekend to prepare for the launch of the new Chicken Tostada Salad today as promised.  Instead, please look for this salad to start on Friday.  My apologies.

New Trail-Ride Tri-Tip Sandwich

Lastly, we've varied the Tri-Tip sandwich a little bit to create the Trail-Ride Tri-Tip, using the same tender sliced grilled tri-tip meat but adding grilled onions, cheddar cheese, and a light horseradish spread along with the BBQ sauce (trail-ride, horse-radish, that's a joke, boy.  I keep pitchin 'em and you keep missin 'em.)  It's really good, and best of all, it's on sale.  From now until the Habitat For Humanity Trail Ride in October, the sandwich is on sale for $5.25.  Add baked beans on the side for $6.50.  And, for every sandwich sold during this period, Running Rooster will donate a portion of the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity so they can build some more bunkhouses.  Thanks for your help.
