the beginning...

​Founded in 2003 by Jim Chapman and Brenda Black,

Running Rooster started with a mission of providing high

quality, freshly cooked take-home dinners for busy

families that didn’t have time to cook, but wanted to eat a

wholesome meal as a family nonetheless.  Our focus was

on food quality and service.  Over time, we found that

more and more of our customers wanted our food, but

wanted to eat it on the spot, not taking it home. So

Running Rooster evolved into a small cafe.

One day, Jim made the fateful decision to buy a grill and

start grilling burgers in the parking lot of the cafe (there was no kitchen there at the time).  From that point on, Running Rooster changed forever, becoming one of Hollister’s leading restaurants and home of the “Best.  Burger.  Ever.”  In 2012, with a growing and successful business, a remodel was undertaken to expand the restaurant, add a bar, and upgrade the kitchen.  The result is the beautiful restaurant you see today.

Along the way, we never lost sight of the core value that made us successful:  high-quality food, and good personal service.  The Honest Food motto has been on our logo from day 1, and it’s still there, as important to us as ever.

We use only the best ingredients that keep
customers coming back AGAIN ANd again.
